Gym VS Home

VS

I am so not a fitness snob.

love many ways to get your sweat session on but this post is just about my last year of working out at the gym versus working out at home while having two kiddos to juggle!
Hopefully I can help you decide what will work best in your life!

I started out the beginning of last year working out at home with Beachbody on Demand {it is like Netflix for workouts!} doing The 21 Day Fix by Autumn Calabrese {LOVE her, total #wcw material}. The workouts were only 30 minutes long which was perfect with having a newborn and a toddler running around.

I am sure you have heard of Beachbody.
P90X, Insanity, T25
Ringing any bells?

Ben and I have been doing their workouts together for years, we did Insanity before our wedding and I did T25 after I had Ulric to loose the baby weight.

Then a couple of my girlfriends started going to a local little gym and bonus they offered a daycare in the gym!
So in June, when Sawyer turned 6 months old {which was the age requirement to be in the daycare} I got a membership thinking this will be perfect!
Get this stay at home mom out of the house and I can workout with my friends.

Turned out neither of my kids liked it, and I mean HATED it.
Have you ever tried working out when your child was screaming bloody murder through the wall...yeah its a no go.

BUT if your kids are okay in that type of atmosphere, then definitely do it, I know more and more gyms are offering a daycare inside the gym itself.
I probably should have let them get used to it more but you mama's understand how hard it is to listen to your kid cry. I'm a sucker for their cuteness!

One of the days, my little princess just wasn't having it.

So, my friend and I decided to trade watching each others kids for a while why the other one went to the gym for some peace. This worked out great until one of the kids got sick or just plain old life got in the way.

I hired a neighborhood babysitter to come and literally just watch the kids while I ran to the gym and back. Hour and a half max with drive time.
I even scheduled it while Sawyer napped in the morning so all she was doing was playing with Ully. It was wonderful!

As you can see I was pretty desperate to go to the gym.
Like I mentioned before it was my 'me time'!
I love nothing more than putting in those head phones and lifting.
Total stress relief.

For beginners to weight lifting I totally recommend Jamie Eason's LiveFit trainer.

It is a free online 12 week weight lifting and nutrition plan.
She has a ton of videos that help to explain the exercises {I know that gymtimadation is real!}, motivational messages to keep you going and recipes to help you stay on track!

With my babysitter starting school in the fall and my husband coming home from deployment making it the gym got harder and harder.

So back to working out at home I went...

For a busy mom with young children like me there are just SO many benefits to working out at home due to my kids crazy schedule.
Now fair warning that your playroom may look a tornado went through it after your workout.

But I like that I am showing my kids that mommy is taking care of herself and the importance of working out for your health

Many other options for working out at home besides program workouts.

If you are lucky enough to have your own home gym {totally on our dream board} major bonus there or if you just own few pieces of workout equipment, you still can get your sweat on!

Obviously free weights are amazing to have on hand. I have started to love using bands more and more. Trying to get those booty gains back after these kids! I use this brand
Sliders are nice to have as well to work the behind! I recently purchased these and have just started to add them to my workouts.
Ben has used a pull up bar for years in the house.
Kettlebells can be used for a full body workout! Target has a ton of different options!

Little routine I have done in the past from Women's Health magazine.

Ben and I bought a Nordictrack treadmill last year we both use for some cardio. I love to run outside with my babies too! An app I recommend that can be used outside or on a treadmill is Weight Loss Running. It has options for any level of runner and does interval plans of running, walking, and sprinting that you tailor to your specific goals!

I love a good HIIT (high intensity interval training) workout!
When I am short on time I'll make up a Tabata workout. It consists of eight rounds of high intensity exercises in a specific 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off interval. There are a ton of Tabata timer apps available too! I currently use Tabata Stopwatch Pro.

Whether your lifestyle allows you to hit the gym and lift or you can only fit in 30 minutes at home with your kids running around, the important thing is that you are getting in your workout and enjoying it.
